Dominic White, known as Dom

Dominic sadly passed away on the 5th January 2012 at the age of 19 after nearly four years of battling cancer. With the help and support of your dedicated hospice at home team we were able to care for Dominic at home with his family right to the end. Diagnosed in April 2007 with a rare brain tumour, Diffuse Pontine Glioma, Dominic was given a shocking prognosis of just 2 months to live. He underwent a year and a half of chemotherapy and throughout his treatment was able to live a normal life and after 6 weeks of radiotherapy returned to school to complete his GCSE's then went on to 6th form to study for A-Levels. Despite the shocking prognosis Dominic was incredibly positive throughout his illness, showing great levels of maturity and strength that left those around him amazed. Dominic was always a loving and caring brother to his sister Caity, a loving son who made us all laugh often at his unique and witty perspective on life but also in troubled times would bring an interesting mature view to the table. He was a real games addict and in particular spent every spare minute playing World of Warcraft where he forged many valuable friendships and received great respect. He had a great love of film and enjoyed photography, displaying his own unique sense of style. We can only admire the strength Dominic has shown throughout his illness. It has been a real pleasure and honour to have had such a wonderful son and to have shared the last albeit short 19 years with him. We just wish it could have been so much longer. Throughout Dominic's illness he became our teacher, he taught us about strength, courage, love and acceptance and at the end he taught us about death and not to fear it. Our world has become a much darker and emptier place without him. We were fortunate enough to be able to carry out Dominic's wishes by keeping him at home until the end. This was only made possible by the care and attention we received from St. Elizabeth's Hospice at Home team and with this in mind would like to support their valuable work in setting up this tribute fund in Dominic's name not only to keep his memory alive but so that others are able to benefit from being able to stay in their loving, home environment until the end of their physical life.
